A new Teaching Block in Baiwan Secondary School of Qing Xin County School Appeal (Translated from Chinese) |

Baiwan Secondary School of Qing Xin County is the only junior secondary school in Bai Wan. The school was founded in 1976, with a building plot of 17333 m2, total building area of 3258 m2, and 40% greenbelt coverage. Since 1995 the school has been greatly supported by people from all walks of life including overseas Chinese and Hong Kong people, especially from Xin Shan Xuan Gong of Hong Kong and Madam Chen Yu Zhen from Japan. Together they have donated over RMB 1 million to build the 4-storey teaching block (the one that you can see at the school entrance), which dramatically changed the outlook of the school and provided the basic facilities for running the school at that time. |

| The teaching environment was greatly improved after the new teaching block came into use.
The quality of education has risen gradually due to the hard work of both the teachers and students.
It is among the top 10 schools in the whole county when it comes to the number of students continuing education after secondary three.
This has drawn great concerns from parents and society as there has been a trend towards subsidizing needy students.
As a consequence, education results have improved steadily, significantly more students enroll in school and consolidation rate is increased.
There are now 10 classes in the school, with 30 teachers and 624 students. There will be 12 classes and 720 students in the next academic year.
It is projected the student population will be increased by two classes each year in the next few years.
The only teaching block has been made to accommodate 10 ordinary classrooms, a computer lab, a chemistry lab,
a physics lab, a staffroom, a library, a conference room, etc. |

| The lack of sufficient classrooms to house students and staff has handicapped the development of Baiwan Secondary School. It is the most important issue in the mind of every Baiwan resident. If we are to extend the scale of education and provide senior secondary classes, a new teaching block is needed imminently. Due to the limited source of school capital, an investment of about RMB$600,000 is needed to build a 3-storey teaching block. We have already collected RMB$200,000 but have exhausted all other ways of raising the remainder of the money required. So we can only rely on the power of the society to solve together the problem facing Baiwan Secondary School. We will name the new teaching block after whoever can contribute to the completion of this event in order to encourage our descendants. With your contribution we will be able to continue our efforts in developing education in this remote mountainous area. Thank you! |
