Bai Wan has been a community service placement for Island School (IS) since 1998. Every year, a group of students and teachers from IS visits Bai Wan for a week in October/November. We teach children in local schools and play with them. |

The Nansen House has bought PE equipment for Hao Qiang Primary School, library books for Nan An Primary School and sponsored Baiwan Secondary School to build the new hostel for boarding students as well as paying for new PE equipment and bunk beds for the increased student body. Island School Student Union 2004 has also sponsored to build the new dorm for Baiwan Secondary School. Money has also been raised over the years to help equip other schools with better facilities. In September 2008, IS raised RMB 3000 to buy bunk beds for the dormitory of Baiwan Secondary School. During the trip in 2008, the group met two unnamed twins in a remote village. They gave them names and donated RMB 1360 to sponsor the twins to start school next September. We will continue to raise more money to improve the quality of education in Baiwan and to meet the needs of children there. |
