Bei An Primary School is located on a hill side about 30 minutes on foot from Bai Wan town centre. The school building was donated in1998 by a group of overseas Chinese from Sun Hui city of GuangDong Province. It is now serving over 100 students in the vicinity. There are 6 classes from preschool P1 to P6.

In October 2007, the Da Vincci House of Island School paid for the cost of renovating the student dormitory where about a dozen of students stay during the week days. It also paid for the new wiring system of the teaching block. In December 2007, we paid for the salary of a new kitchen helper who will look after the boarders of the school. |
| This remote school relies on water
collected from top of
the hill during the rainy season. In April 2001, we found that the
drainage pipes had
been damaged for 2 years, there was hardly any water in the reservoir
even during rainy season, not to
mention the dry season during winter. The school had to either buy
water from
the village at the bottom of the hill at a cost of RMB 2 per 25 kg or
ask each
student to bring 3 bottles of water to school every day.

Our report for
the damaged drenches had attracted much attention and money
had been raised to repair the drainage system. In our July visit in
2001, we were
pleased to see that the reservoir was full again. The school has the
water
supply it needs for normal cleansing and cooking purposes. Besides,
some parents
were benefited from the drench project as it provided the very much
needed job
opportunity for the local community.
Nevertheless, during a dry year such as in 2003 the reservoir can barely store sufficient water for normal usage. The school wishes to increase the capacity of the reservoir by building higher walls. |
| This picture shows staff coming down from the hill after examining the beginning of the drainage system. A whole day’s work of carrying bricks up and laying them on this hill was worth of 35 RMB (US$4). | ![]() |

In December 2003, we sponsored the school to build a short wall outside the main entrance to prevent the children from falling down the hill. In November 2004 we helped two children to start schooling. In June 2005 we sponsored the school to build a badminton court. During our visit in October the same year, our group sponsored five more children to start education. |
